A L Consulting was founded in April 1986 and currently comprises the Director and 7 Associate Consultants.

We work to a strong ethical code

  • Our work is delivered by proven and accredited consultants with appropriate technical, sector and personal skills.
  • We only carry out assignments which we believe will benefit the client

There are three main directions to the Company:

1. ASSESSMENT

We are licenced to:
  • Assess against a variety of standards such as EFQM, IIP, BS, 
  • Use a range of DTI diagnostics tools, mainly for SMEs
  • Use a range of psychometric tools including the Momentum Radar, the first of the 5th generation tools
  • We work with some 60-80 organisations annually which gives us unrivalled experience of organisational problems and the ways in which they have been tackled.

2. RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

We are regularly involved in creating and piloting new management development activities and resources for professional bodies and working with Business Schools to translate academic research into practical development tools. Recent examples include:
  • The development and delivery of Strategic Church Leadership, a competency based development programme for the Church of England
  • The adaptation of the Institute for Leadership and Management’s World Class Team Leader Awards for the Furniture Manufacturing Industry
  • The writing of Costs, controls and profit - the complete business checklist for the Forum of Private Business.

3. CONSULTANCY


Our focus is on strategic leadership and planning which involves:
  • Creation and clarification of vision and mission
  • Changing culture
  • Building of strategic teams
To achieve this we utilise a wide range of techniques including:
  • Coaching
  • Psychometrics
  • 360 degree appraisal
  • Action learning
  • Problem based learning

There are currently 4 strands to our Consultancy direction

Large companies - Our client base includes companies such as BAE Systems, Corus, Carnauld Metalbox, Kimberley Clark, Ethel Austin and Tetrad
 
Public sector organisations - Our client base includes organisations such as Defra, Benefits Agency, Primary Care Trusts, County and District Councils and schools.

Faith groups - Over the last six years we have been increasingly involved in adapting secular leadership and management techniques for faith groups. Our client base includes the Archbishops’ Council, the Anglican Dioceses of Blackburn, Manchester, Liverpool, The Welsh Diocese of Bangor, the Newman Society, United Reformed Church and the British Muslim Council.
 
Small businesses -Most of our current work with small businesses focuses on owner managers whose business has grown to the point where they can no longer effectively manage it entirely by themselves but are afraid to let go.
 
Typical clients are:
  • Owner-managed businesses with between 50 and 100 staff, whose owner-managers believe the business could perform better but are not sure what to do about it
  • Partnerships with between six and thirty partners
  • Recently established SMEs who are finding that businesses rarely go to plan
  • Head teachers of schools.
